Interesting facts

Adults are found in lagoons and seaward reefs with hard substrate; young individuals are abundant in tide pools. It is a benthopelagic species which is often found feeding near freshwater run-offs grazing on rocks where certain algae grow. This fish occasionally forms schools and feeds on large aggregations of filamentous algae. During spawning, clouds of eggs and sperm are preyed upon by eagle rays often present during this event. The size of the juvenile after metamorphosis is about 3.2 cm.
