On Tetiaroa, 16 bird species have been identified, including 11 breeding seabirds, 4 migratory terrestrial birds and 1 native breeding terrestrial bird. The particularity of atolls, compared to high islands, is the presence of more breeding seabirds that have direct access to food. Despite the small number of species, the bird colonies are very important in Tetiaroa. This atoll represents a real sanctuary for these animals.
Birds
"...recognize and respect Earth's beautiful systems of balance, between the presence of animals on land, the fish in the sea, birds in the air, mankind, water, air, and land. Most importantly there must always be awareness of the actions by people that can disturb this precious balance." ~ Margaret Mead
