Patrick Kirch is Chancellor’s Professor Emeritus and Professor of the Graduate School at the University of California at Berkeley. An archaeologist and anthropologist of Polynesia and the Pacific islands, Prof. Kirch has carried out fieldwork throughout the Pacific for more than 45 years. In French Polynesia, he has excavated archaeological sites on Mo’orea, Maupiti, and Mangareva Islands. He has published more than 20 books and monographs and 300 scientific articles, and is a member of the U. S. National Academy of Sciences.
